For many years, the Sand 3 was the flagship model of REV’IT. It has since been succeeded by the Sand 4 and Sand 5. Still curious about the Sand 3? Specially for us, passionate rider Dirk de Wild tested the Sand 3. In this review, you can read about his personal experience.
The REV’IT Sand 3 motorcycle jacket
The REV’IT Sand 3 motorcycle jacket is very warm and offers strong water resistance while remaining fully waterproof. Thanks to the various adjustment straps at the waist, this jacket feels less like a stiff safety shell and more like a well fitted, neatly tailored and sporty motorcycle jacket.
The jacket consists of three layers:
- The outer shell features plenty of ventilation openings, allowing the Sand 3 to function as a highly ventilated jacket in summer. With two chest pockets, two lower pockets with press studs, a large rear pocket and a spacious inner pocket, there’s ample room for personal items. The armour is comfortable and lightweight, keeping the overall jacket weight low.
- The waterproof liner performs very well and also includes a large inner pocket, ensuring your most important belongings stay dry at all times.
- The thermal liner, which is incredibly warm and comfortable.
All three layers are securely connected and feel very comfortable when worn together. You hardly notice that the jacket consists of separate layers. Another advantage is the reflective panels on the outer shell, which improve visibility in dark conditions.
One detail that used to annoy me on other jackets is perfectly solved here and makes this jacket exceptionally pleasant to wear: the adjustable press stud on the chin flap. On my previous jackets, this was Velcro, which lost grip after a few months, causing constant flapping and tapping against the helmet. That issue simply doesn’t exist with this jacket.
It’s these small details that show how well thought out this jacket is. Everything just works as it should.
The REV’IT Sand 3 motorcycle trousers
What stood out to me immediately were the zips at the bottom of the legs, which keep the liners perfectly in place. A real must have, in my opinion, is the Rev’it suspenders. They improve comfort even further, possibly because of my body shape causing the trousers to slide slightly. Another feature I really appreciate is the press stud in the crotch area, which ensures the waterproof liner always stays in place, meaning no more wet discomfort. Just like the jacket, the trousers are lightweight and come standard with knee and hip protection.
Conclusion of the REV’IT Sand 3 review
I’ve been using the jacket daily for commuting for over a month now, in all weather conditions. My experience is that it fits well, doesn’t flap in the wind and remains very comfortable, even with all liners installed. You can easily order the latest version, the REV’IT Sand 5, online.
