Cleaning Helmet Liner
Most motorcycle helmets have a removable liner that can be washed in a washing machine. Check the label on the liner and cheek pads for washing instructions. Generally, it's recommended to wash the liner at no more than 30°C and to avoid putting the liner in the dryer. The reason is that the liner might shrink, causing the helmet not to fit properly on your head. You can also hand wash the liner gently.
If the liner is not removable, you can still wipe it down with a damp cloth. For a fresh scent in the helmet, you might consider spraying textile foam on the liner and letting it absorb.
Cleaning Helmet Visor
To keep your helmet visor clean, it's best to use a soft microfiber cloth. This prevents scratching the visor. Use clean water or a visor cleaner to remove dirt from the helmet visor. It's not recommended to use dish soap and regular soap as they often leave streaks on the visor and can harden the plastic, making it easier to crack.
Behind the visor is a rubber edge that serves as an insulating edge when the visor is closed. This material should be lubricated with silicone grease every so often (approximately every 6 months) to prevent it from drying out. If it dries out, the visor might start leaking. The lubrication also applies to the visor mechanism to which the visor is attached.
Cleaning Helmet Exterior
Remove dirt from the exterior of your helmet using clean water and a soft cloth (preferably a microfiber cloth). A microfiber cloth is very soft and will not damage or scratch the helmet. Ensure that the cloth is sufficiently moist but not soaking wet, and start by gently wiping down the helmet. We recommend performing all work on your motorcycle helmet on a soft surface, for example, on a helmet cushion.
Once you can no longer see sand or similar debris on the helmet shell, you can begin to polish it more firmly, otherwise, you risk rubbing it into the paint. A great way to make the helmet shine like new is to apply a helmet polish product last.
Storing Your Helmet
If you’re not riding for a while, for example, in winter, it's wise to store the motorcycle helmet in its helmet bag in a cool, dark place. Never store the helmet upside down, and don’t keep (wet) gloves inside it, as the liner will remain damp and may start to rot.
