SHARP helmet rating

SHARP helmet rating

SHARP is a British research institute that independently tests helmet safety. The safety level is expressed in stars, ranging from one star (low safety) to a maximum of five stars (very high safety).

About the SHARP rating

SHARP (Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme) was established in 2007 by the British government to test the safety and strength of helmets.

In principle, every helmet that is available in stores is tested by SHARP. For each helmet model, seven samples are used to complete 32 different tests. These tests measure how well a helmet protects the head during an impact.

The rating

After completing all tests, the helmet is rated from 1 to a maximum of 5 stars. A 5 star SHARP helmet offers excellent protection around the entire head.

Want to know how many stars your helmet has? Visit the SHARP website, where all test results are published.

SHARP versus ECE

The European counterpart to SHARP is the ECE certification. All motorcycle helmets available at FortaMoto are ECE certified, unless stated otherwise.
