Why Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves?

A good pair of waterproof motorcycle gloves is essential for every motorcyclist in the Netherlands, as we often deal with rain. It's convenient to have a pair of waterproof gloves ready. Even when traveling, it's important because even on the most beautiful summer days, you can be surprised by an unexpected rain shower.

Features of Waterproof Motorcycle Gloves

Of course, a waterproof motorcycle glove does not let in water. A membrane ensures that your gloves are waterproof and breathable. There are different types of membranes, namely direct laminate and loose laminate. It's important to know how these two different membranes work when purchasing your waterproof gloves. We explain the difference to you.

Loose Hanging Membrane
A loose hanging membrane keeps warmth inside but does not have the luxury of allowing water vapor to pass through. This membrane is laminated against the outer fabric, and it is advisable to treat the motorcycle gloves with a waterproof impregnation spray several times a year.

Direct Laminate Membrane
Motorcycle gloves with a direct laminate membrane have the best breathability function. A laminated membrane is incorporated into the fabric between the glove and the lining, keeping rain out and providing space for water vapor (sweat) to pass through the glove. This ensures that water stays outside, and warmth and moisture are carried away.

This type of membrane is waterproof and breathable and is often used in winter gloves. Since water vapor can escape from inside the glove, you won't get damp or cold hands in the glove. Additionally, this membrane does not soak up rain, so it does not become heavier. This means a direct membrane also dries faster than a loose hanging membrane. One of the best-known examples of direct laminate motorcycle gloves are laminated Gore-Tex motorcycle gloves.
