After developing safety helmets for construction, Arai started producing Arai helmets for motorcycle racing in the 50’s. The Unique Outer Shell of an Arai Helmet
The base of the round outer shell of an Arai helmet consists of superfiber material (supplemented with Kevlar, Nylon, and carbon), with the fibers being sprayed onto a mold. The loose fibers stick crisscross together, creating a much stiffer and harder shell than with a woven fiber material.
Although many helmets are currently equipped with angular lines in the outer shell, the Arai helmet is always round. Such angular looks are very cool, but Arai's rounded design has a reason: a smooth helmet has a much lower chance of getting caught on something during a fall or slide.
