Optimate battery chargers have been developed by Tecmate since 1994, a company that develops various maintenance and testing equipment for workshops. The smart chargers are of high quality and fully developed. Optimate chargers are recommended by many motorcycle manufacturers.
Differences between chargers
There are different Optimate chargers available. The main difference lies in the charging power. Additionally, the more expensive models have a more extensive test and charging cycle. For motorcycles with a CanBus connection, the Optimate 4 Dual has been specifically developed. This has two different charging programs, both for CanBus and normal. To use the charger on a CanBus connection, a separate cigarette lighter plug is needed. This is sold separately.

Operation of the test and charging cycle
After connecting, the Optimate tests the battery voltage and checks if it can be charged according to a normal charging cycle. For very deeply or fully discharged batteries, you will need an Optimate 3, 4, 5, or 6. If the battery is fully discharged, the charger (except Optimate 2) estimates if it can be restored and, if possible, starts the recovery program. Depending on the condition of the battery, it is charged with different current strengths until normal charging can begin. When the battery is fully charged, the Optimate tests the battery for power retention and finally switches the battery to maintenance charging. The charger can remain connected to the battery indefinitely, so you don't have to worry about it.
