Optimate battery chargers have been developed by Tecmate since 1994, providing various maintenance and testing equipment for workshops. The smart chargers are of high quality and fully developed. Optimate chargers are recommended by many motorcycle manufacturers.

Differences between chargers

There are different Optimate chargers available. The biggest difference lies in the charging power. Additionally, the more expensive models have a more extensive test and charge cycle. For motorcycles with a CanBus connection, the Optimate 4 Dual has been specially developed. It has two different charging programs, both for CanBus and normal. To use the charger on a CanBus connection, a separate cigarette lighter plug is needed. This is available separately.

Operation of test and charge cycle

After connecting, the Optimate tests the battery voltage and checks if it can be charged according to a normal charging cycle. For very deeply or fully discharged batteries, you need an Optimate 3, 4, 5, or 6. If the battery is fully discharged, the charger (except for Optimate 2) estimates whether it can be recovered and starts the recovery program if possible. Depending on the condition of the battery, it is charged with different current strengths until normal charging can begin. When the battery is fully charged, the Optimate tests the battery for current retention and eventually switches to trickle charging. The charger can remain connected to the battery indefinitely, so you don't have to worry about it.
