Product description
Optimate battery chargers have been developed by Tecmate since 1994, a company that also develops various maintenance and testing equipment for use in workshops. The smart chargers are of high quality and fully refined. Optimate chargers are recommended by many motorcycle manufacturers.
Differences between chargers
There are different Optimate chargers available. The biggest difference lies in the charging power. Additionally, the more expensive models offer more extensive testing and charging cycles. For motorcycles with a CanBus connection, the Optimate 4 Dual has been specially developed. It has two different charging programs, both for CanBus and normal. To use the charger on a CanBus connection, a separate cigarette lighter plug is needed, which is available separately.

Operation of the test and charging cycle
After connection, the Optimate tests the battery's voltage and checks if it can be charged according to a normal charging cycle. For very deeply or fully discharged batteries, you need an Optimate 3, 4, 5, or 6. If the battery is fully discharged, the charger (except Optimate 2) estimates if it can be restored and starts the recovery program if possible. Depending on the battery's condition, it is charged with different currents until normal charging can begin. When the battery is fully charged, the Optimate tests the battery for power retention and eventually switches the battery to trickle charging. The charger can remain connected to the battery indefinitely. You don't need to worry about it.
